For a new multidisciplinary production - ''Kimiko's Pearl"
Featuring original music, sound design, ballet, and visual art.
Kimiko’s Pearl unfurls the bittersweet story of one family – spanning four generations – set against the turbulent backdrop of World War II. It is told through the eyes of Kimiko, a 15-year-old Toronto girl who discovers an old family trunk containing her great-grandfather’s diary and other precious keepsakes. As Kimiko reads the diary, her family’s tale comes to life before her eyes. Kimiko’s story reflects the tragedies and triumphs of Japanese Canadian families before, during and after World War II. Their harsh experiences attest to heroism and hope in the face of racism.

Sway Gallery presents a carefully curated selection of works by Japanese artist and calligrapher Rie Takeda, taken from her ‘Painted Poems’ series.
‘Painted Poems’ radiates with an embrace of unified harmony, striving to create a Natsukashii feeling～a warm nostalgia paired with the momentum of the here and now.
Original poems pour into calligraphic design compositions, flowing with rich colours, patterns and an atmospheric spirit.
The soul of the poems is painted out into vibrant life.
The art of calligraphy, traditional craftsmanship, symbolism, Wabi-Sabi and Haiku-inspired poetry are all interlaced in this glowing collection.
